I found that the cause of my current leak is a hole on the side wall of the footwell on the driver's side. There was a duct tape patch over it but rain water was getting around the patch, so I took it off and found this hole. Does anyone know what this hole is for or how to get it to stop leaking? here is a picture of the hole: http://filebox.vt.edu/users/aparr/hole%20in%20car.jpg There are threads on the inside of the hole that a bolt looks like it could fit into. |

I dont know what the hole is but you can patch it with some butyl tape and then just cover it back up with duct tape. I pluged an old tub in a field for some horses about 10 years ago and it still is not leaking. Monte |

Or, you could find a bolt that will thread into the hole, and put a dab of sealer around the base of the head of the bolt before you tighten it. |

If you can't find a bolt, you could also fill it with marine patch epoxy. It comes as a two part puty. That would take care of it. |

I thought about epoxy, but because I don't know what the hole is for I didn't want to do something permanent. |

I just looked at your picture again. Before you plug the hole, however you do that, you may want to think about where the water is going to go if not out the hole. You certaintly don't want standing water built up behind it. You might try to find out where the leak is that leads to the hole. If there is no cavity behind it, than a bolt or threaded plug would be the way to go. I will look at mine tonight and see if it has the same hole. |

It's hard for me to tell from the picture. Is that the hole where the vaccum tube comes through to firewall for the cruise control system? Best of luck with the patch if it's not. Not so helpful, John Ramsay |

No, it's not the vaccum tube for the cruise control, this hole is on the side of the foot well right above the wire hole that goes to the door, so unless someone else has an idea about what this hole could be, it looks like I'll be patching it. |
