Take a slide hammer with an attachment for the end. Grind off the end of the attachment so that the end attachment has a hole in it, but is still strong. Place a M8x1.25 bolt in the attachment, screw onto slide hammer. Should be self explanatory from there. It will come out very easy. Other people have welded a bolt onto something that they can hammer, this is likely a good approach as well, same idea. The other thing I tried was to mimic the LR service tool with a large socket, M8x1.25 bolt, nut and heavy duty washer. I think this could work, but with a small M8 nut I could not get enough leverage to break it loose. The LR tool is an M8 bolt, but it upsizes to a large nut that you can get some leverage on. Trick for breaking the pinion nut loose is to have someone step on the brake peddle (no need to have power or motor running). With that said... Once the flange, seal and spacer are off, should the pinion move around in the housing?
