Hey D2 people,

There has been a couple of conversations lately about the front driveshaft on the D2 being a complete POS. I have read about people rebuilding their original shaft with double cardon joints and others who has just purchased an LR replacement.

Has anyone went with a Tom Wood's driveshaft on their D2? My thinking was why rebuild the old shaft if I can replace it with completely new assembly that is better than the original POS.

Looks meaty. What do OEM driveshafts cost?

I have no idea what an OEM shaft costs and I am sure the price varies from dealer to dealer.

Since I have owned the Pig, everytime something breaks or gets ripped off; I replace it with something better. However Chris, Drivetrain items are not something that I want to wait for to break. :-)

The master plan is to go with HD shafts and front and rear TTs after I replace the shocks and springs. But with a 5 year anniversary weekend coming up, I have to save for the Rover toys a little longer.

Paul, I've spoken w/ Bill at GBR. It's not the front shaft itself that is the problem, actually it's quite a stout unit. It's the fact that it's equipped with non-servicable joints in the double-cardon joint.

Order the upgrade kit from Bill. It's something like $99 and includes three HD greasable Spicer joints (2 for the DC joint as well as a replacement for the front joint), and a grease fitting for the splines. That's all you'll need for a stout front shaft.

Hey Greg,

Thanks for the info. Have you done anything for your aft shaft?

Paul/Greg, I bought the upgrade kit from Bill back in January. Just wanted to point out it only came with two spicer joints and not three. The front stock joint is greasable. He does include flush grease fittings for that one and the splines.

Be prepared for an afternoon of wrestling to get the joints in. :-)

Ooops. Sorry about the mis-quote then.

Paul, I had mine replaced under warranty just before it ran out. I still need to upgrade, but at least I have a relatively new unit for the time being.
