http://www.discoweb.org/ladder/index.htm

Why not try? I'm sure the dealer will charge the typical rate for labor hours around $85/hr ish? I understand that shop rates vary so take that with a grain.

here's another resource as well:

BTW, installation is the same whether D2 or D1 as rear doors are the same.

Its pretty easy, I used a real rivnut tool so I am sure that helped, just take your time and mark the holes clean and you should be okay.

that's what I paid to have the ladder I already own installed on my D2 at a local Dealer. In a nutshell, I needed additional work done to my car that was outside of warranty to the tune of 300 something dollars. Bottom line, dealer called back and said he needed to replace another part under warranty, since that part was being removed the 300 something, was no longer a factor. I was surprised that the rep even bothered to call me and tell me this instead of just doing the work and taking my money. Anyhow, subject came up about my ladder in the rear cargo area, so I told him install it, I was billed 95 (or so) for it. Did not even bat an eye at the price considering the thousands they saved me in repair and warranty.

Dude,

Where are you located. I can't speak for everyone here but I think there's enough nice folks on this list that would sincerely love to get with you and provide some support and help. I didn't have much technical ability and I put mine on myself. I had to go out and buy a rivnut tool but that was a lot cheaper than paying a mechanic to do it for me. Everything turned out great. I love my ladder.

Dude,

Thanks for your support, but NO! I am perfectly capable of installing the ladder myself. However I have seen how easy it is for a person to show up to a dealer in a rig like mine and get a warranty hold. I'll gladly pay to avoid this.

Now, maybe since you need details to better understand what I do with my money, I should mention on a Monday in the Los Angeles area, particularly the 405 freeway, they insisted that their driver give me ride home from the dealership. For the driver traffic at that hour would have been shot, but none the less, the driver fetched me a cup of coffee and gave me a lift home during morning traffic (one way it took an hour). I already know the cab fair would have been close to the cost of installing the ladder.

To further mention, that I needed the truck done in two days as opposed to the week and a half they suggested it would be out, due to a parts shortage, the dealer endured the cost of overnighting my parts, simply doing me a favor so that I could make my local run.

So lets see.

Free coffee
Free ride home
Made my local run
They washed my car

and it cost me 100 bucks.

So, you dont know the details, therefore, you need not comment. A question was asked and it took 4 posts to get that question answered. The question was answered.

Just so you know.. The Riv-Nut tool that does the job RIGHT (not to be confused with the one that gets the job done) costs more than what I paid to have mine installed.

Go get your calculator and do the math.

Ron,

I certainly wasn't trying to be devisive just letting Damien know that there are a lot of good people on this list that might be glad and willing to help out with this sort of project. But thanks for your info. I'm sure someone appreciates it.

I think Ron's point plain and simple was that it definitely behooves those who actually wheel their modified Rovers while still under warranty to develop a solid relationship with their dealer.

As has been well documented on Discoweb, the decision to fix broken parts under warranty falls primarily on the service writer and the service department at the dealership.

If you have a good working relationship with your dealer, they are more likely to judge in your favor when shit gets fucked up on your truck due to wheeling.

I recently discovered a broken washer bottle mount on my truck directly attributable to my aftermarket bumper. My dealer fixed it and I didn't pay a penny because they filed it as a warranty repair.

Really, no harm done. I had a hell of a shit kickin kind of week several weeks ago. It happens from time to time. We're all on the same side here (friendly LR owners) aren't we?

Kelly,
Please don't let this keep you from posting closely-related answewrs to people's questions in the future. I know that when I post a question, I like to look at it from all sides and I like it when people post things about it that I might not have thought of. I can gather all of the information, and sort out the best course of action for me.
To me, it appeard as if you were offering to save the guy (The original guy, Damien-not Ron) some money.

Kelly - No problem, we have our days

I see this question

"how much would a dealer charge to install my ladder on my d1?"

With this filter

"i cant do that stuff myself."

So I offered my experience.

"Sounded a little testie, Ron."

Well Greg, I should be "testie" now, considering your contribution to this topic.

I'm getting more and more testy too. The overall lack of spell-check is killing me.
