I'm about to put OME shocks and springs with 265/75R16 tires on my 2001 Discovery II, but I'm concerned with the clearance of the spare tire - will it hit the bumper with this tire? Is there any way to raise the bracket for more clearance? Thanks for any info...

FWIW, I've been running a 265/75x16 BFG AT spare on the back with no problems for a couple of years now. It is a tight fit and maybe my rear bumper has settled a little but I never had to change the mount. The tire actually sits on the bumper so the weight is on the door and bumper but it has stopped a sqeak I have when I had the smaller spare on there.

The mount rotation will be done when I move to 255/85's. :-)

Thanks for the additional info. I'll try fitting it without the mod and see how tight it is. If it's sitting on the bumper, doesn't it drag when you open the cargo door?

A little, not much really. Like I said, my bumper may have settled prior to putting on the 265/75.

I have same on my rear, but the BFG muds, fits just fine when bracket is flipped over. No problems so far at all. Mine does not touch the bumper (yet?). Cleareance: you can fit several pieces of paper between tire and rear bumper -- but not much more!

Have fun! Jamie

No dragging. However, I was advised to NOT leave the cargo door open for long periods with all that weight on the door, because Disco doors have a tendency to sag anyway. Jamie

It may depend on the tire type and manufacturer. My 245/75/16 Dunlop MT rubs (very slightly) on the bumper when opening or closing the rear door with the spare tire holder in the original position. An AT may fit just fine. Also my 245 MT is new (well was, just got a flat yesterday).

Good point. I think I'm getting Dunlop Rover R/T's, but 265/75/16. Are the 245's just skinnier (same height)?

Greg,

You'll also have to adjust the rear winscreen wiper, which will hit the tire. But it's just a splined connector, pull off the nut, remove, rotate around a spline or two, and put back.

Greg:

The 265 Rover RT has a reported outside diameter (OD) of 31.5".
http://tires2.digiknow.com/dunlop/display_tire.jsp?prodline=Rover+RT&mrktarea=Li ght+Truck
The 245 Mud Rover has an OD of 30.6". http://tires2.digiknow.com/dunlop/display_tire.jsp?prodline=Mud+Rover&mrktarea=L ight+Truck
So I think that you're looking at about just less than 1/2" of difference where it counts.
