With this weekend's shopping spree ahead I decided to write out what to look for in shopping used DIs.

How does this look?

ENGINE:
Check oil leak locations
Check PS fluid
Check PS pump for noise
Coolant level
check oil for coolant and sludge

BODY:
Rust on door hinges
Rust on C-pillar near wheel well.
Rust on Alpine window
Rust on undercarriage

CABIN:
Check all power accessories (windows/roof/seats etc)
Check leather condition
Check A/C system

DRIVING:
Ensure that CDL works
Listen for bearing whine at speed
Brake feel (check pads/rotors/fluids as well)
Check WOT for bog/stutter (when engine is hot).
Check hot start.

Does that sound pretty complete for a quick inspection?

Headliner sagging.
Warped Dashboard.
Stains around sunroof and alpine windows, possible cause of leaking.

Driveline vibrations at speed. Take that puppy up to 85 mph on various road surfaces and see what makes the most vibration/noise. Possible u-joint/roto-flex issues etc.. Walk away from anything too harse you'll thank yourself later.

I've also found it helpful to have a buddy follow along in a chase car to inspect for bent wheels wobbling at speed. Saggy supension or smoke from the tail pipe as you load the engine.

Do multiple things at once. Run the air and hit the hi-beams; open sunroofs and windows at same time, all while turning the volume up on the radio.

On the more serious side -- check the steering for vibes or slop. These things aren't sports cars but they should be fairly tight in steering...
