Hi everyone, I'm actually posting this for my father. I own a -cringe- Jeep Grand Cherokee. I picked the Jeep because it's capable off road and easy for me to service. I live 100 miles from the closest Land Rover dealership. Anyway, enough about me. My parents have a Range Rover 4.0 and my dad had a Freelander from Dec '01 to about a year ago. Now my dad is looking at a Disco II. He found a '03 HSE with 2,500 miles and ACE at a dealership for $35,000. It's perfect except for a tiny bit of damage in the rear- it looked as though the previous owner might have backed into something, but it's not very bad. The spare tire is bent in a little bit and there's a little scratch on the bumper. He's fairly certain the tire could be fixed inexpensively. Anyway, is there anything to look for on a 2003? Would someone be willing to run a Carfax? He's sure that the vehicle will check out ok, but he'd like to know where it was initially registered as the LR's history is a little vague. Granted, it's practically brand new. I'm not sure if a carfax runs within the guidelines on this website... I know that the similar Jeep forum I peruse has some strict rules regarding privacy and responsibility with Carfax requests. Thanks in advance. andrew |

If the spare tire is bent in a little that probably means the rear door need some work. |

"The spare tire is bent in a little bit and there's a little scratch on the bumper." As Traveltoad mentioned, the door may need work. A suggestion would be to run water around the seals and see if there is a leak. This will tell you if the door is tweaked. Also, see if they will remove the spare to see if there is a dent in the door. Granted you may not see it with the spare on, however should you need to repair it, your looking at a substantial investment. Enough to justify looking at a brand new disco. Ron

If you own a Jeep Grand Cherokee and your father has a RR and a Freelander, you can probably afford to spend the $16 and get your own CarFax. http://www.carfax.com |
