I have a fairly serious coolant leak, which appears to be comming from the gasket under the valve rocker cover!

After climbing the long hill to my house and turning off the engine, coolant dribbles out and drips down from the rocker cover gasket. Enough to depreasurize the coolant system. Each time it does this I loose about two-thirds of the contents of the coolant expansion tank.

I can't belive the coolant is coming from inside the rocker cover, as that could only happen from a catastrophic gasket leak (yes?), and I've seen zero change in engine behavior.

I've checked all the coolant hoses, except for what the shop manual calls the 'valve body coolant hose', as it was to hot to go leaning over the engine too much yet.

Any ideas? Do I need to tear apart the intake system to find this leak?

Erik

It could be s leaking vally gasket, head gasket or hose. A compression test may indicate a bad head gasket. When I had trouble finding a leak, the local shop pressurized the system and was able to find the leak. You should not have to take apart the intake to find the leak.
