This is the first guy getting stuck:

First Guys Screwing Up

And these are the guys that went to pull him out:

Second Guys Screwing Up

Kyle should have fun with this.

Interesting story, and some lessons to be learned. Tundra can be tricky, as can dry lakebeds. You can get stuck at Bonneville the same way, allthough you probably won't float away....

A buddy of mine and I got a Bronco stuck like that on a playa down in Mexico. After that trip, I bought some sand ladders.

River crossings can also be very deceptive. Moving water is a very powerful force, and should be treated with respect.

I err on the conservative side. If I am not willing to attempt to cross it on foot, I am not willing to drive it.

Thats a great link to a great story. Some of the pictures on that web site are beautiful. I don't think I would have come to that river bank and thought "yea, I can cross that". I also loved the quote "I guess I'll never buy a walmart recovery strap again" ... lol

Jim's real cruiser page is great.
He does some cool trips and has lots of good info. I've emailed him before about trail info and he's quite helpful. I was thinking of that FJ40 recovery when I read this thread.

Wow. Those stories of stuck trucks make my stories of my stuck truck look like I didn't even leave my driveway.

Note to self: Do not drive into 1/4 mile wide river. Take boat.

Dean-

Kyle's right, the water wont hurt the trucks anymore than the owners have already.

According to the account though, one of the big hobbies in that part of the country is setting fire to stranded trucks. The need to recover them before the trucks were burned may have added to their lack of caution with their recovery efforts.

Hobby! Gee in the lower 48 it is called a crime. How does a "hobby" like that get started? I remember tails of a similar "hobby" in the infield at the old US GP at Watkins Glenn.
