Ahoy hoy, I've got a '00 Disco that needs new tires. I am going to buy Michelins but I need some feedback on which of two models to choose. I drive mainly on road but go off pavement quite a bit (mud, fields, some level rock terrain). I don't really plan to do any hard core off-road stuff. I can't decide between the XPC or the newer Cross Terrain. Michelin scores the Cross Terrain higher in every category except "mud." The XPC gets an 8 out of 10 while the Cross Terrain gets a 6. The XPCs are also $60 more per tire. Any advice would be appreciated. TIA, Woody |

Woody, I have a 97 disco that came with XPCs. I got 80k out of them before I replaced them with another set of XPCs. XPCs are discontinued, but you can still find them at http://www.tirerack.com I live in NJ and the shipping was $50 for 6 tires, and they threw in a free Palm Pilot Zire. I think it cost me around $15 per tire to mount and balance and new valves. |

Thanks Jaime. I can find either tire here in Houston easily. As for the XPCs being discontinued, I have read that on the boards here, but there's no mention of it on the Mischelin site (unless I missed). Woody |

I think what happened is Michelin reduced the size options on the XPC instead of totally discontinuing the tire. Only two sizes are listed anymore, 255/65-16 and 255/55-18. The 16" is the stock D2 tire and the 18" fits both LR and BMW. Several years ago there were quite a few more sizes available. Perhaps a deal was struck so the XPC would become standard again as the stock tire instead of the Wranger HP? |

It's my understanding from others on this bulletin board that the 255/65-16s will fit D1 stock rims. Does anyone know if is that correct? |

Chris, I know that I've seen 255/65/16s on a stock D1 before, but I can't tell you about any issues such as rubbing, etc. that may have been present as I just saw them, didn't ride in the guys rig. Anyhow, I can say from experience that the Michelin Cross Terrains are very nice for what they are. That is what I had on my D1 before I got the modification bug and that is what is on my wife's D2 right now as well. The tires do very well in the rain, and took my quite a few places off road, even some good mud. I'd go for the Cross Terrains, you'll soon be wanting some MT/s anyhow.. I'm sure of it |

cross terrains or the LTX's are excellent. I have em on my 99 D2. Quiet, great grip...good in the mud surprisingly and after 15000 miles and 1 rotation all 4 still look brand new...LTX's aren't too expensive...the XPCs are. |

Anyone have any problems with feathering on the Cross Terrains? The stock Goodyear Wrangler HP's were always problematic. |
