While stopping for a minute, I put the Disco in park did not shut it off, but when I tried to put it into drive, it wouldn't disengage. It did go into drive only after I shut it off and restarted it.

This might be the first sign on a failing brake switch.

The same thing happened to me in May. I could'nt get it out of park at all. As it turns out, it was the brake light switch. They cost 44.00 at the dealership. I got mine for 21.00 from someone who I was refered to from this website. It was easy to replace. It took about 20 mins. You can save an arm and a leg by doing it yourself.

Also check your fuses. I had a fuse blow #1 and it caused the exact same symptoms.

not sure on a Disco, however, will mention it in case it is the same as on my RR - if there is a rear brake light failure such as the wires shorting out, the RR will also not shift out of park. The more common is the switch mentioned above, however, if that doesn't fix it, you might want to check the wiring.

In emergency try this. Swap the heated rear window power lead with the tail light. turn on the tail light using the HRW switch. Fools it and gets you home
