During our 00 Disco2's 45K service, the dealership replaced the "rocker shaft assembly" to fix worn rockers. It's just as noisy as before, no biggie, it's a truck, but what surprises me is that we had gone in the mud before and the engine was covered in it... and still is.. Would someone clue me in to exactly where the rocker shaft assy is located on that engine, because looking at it from below and from above the engine looked untouched (and no mud was moved), and I just want to make sure we're not being taken for a ride here....

On another note, some low life broke in to the car last night and shattered the driver window (for nothing, did not take a thing!!), so I dismantled the door and I am hoping to drop in a new window in there - any "gotchas" warnings welcome, but seems straightforward (and not worth the $500 deductible)...

Thanks ! Greg.

They are under the rocker covers ie the top of each bank. You need to remove the cover to replace the assembly.

Ask dealer for old parts...you have to dismantle pleanty on a d2 to get them rocker shafts replaced...and if the car has had regular oil changes the rockers should be fine at 45K. If they are really worn and it's still noisy, the cam should be changed also.

Greg,

window busted on my DII as well and they didn't take anything - driver's side rear - I had to buy the window from the dealer - $250 or so. It should already have to metal piece on the bottom so all you have to do is remove the old and plop the new one in. Straightforward. DIs are a little harder.

you should still be covered under warranty on those at 45K. Hell, i would ask them about the valves as well. I had a spark plug wire go out while on a road trip. Dealer replaced it but one week later more misfires and another dealer in hometown claimed valves - $2600 billed to Land Rover. I swear i would have started a class action lawsuit if i had to pay. This problem has been going on for years.

My symptom was a slight jerk at about 70 mph. Valves sticking.
