My alarm and central locks went out, and with a lot of generous help from DWeb, I have the problem narrowed down to the alarm ecu.
My question is, has anyone had any luck replacing any kind of ecu with a used one? Do they last?
Does anyone think i should just have an aftermarket alarm and lock system and not worry about the factory stuff. I think this would be cheaper, but I am really looking for reliability.
One last thing, where can i get wiring diagrams for my 96 se7?

Thanks,
Mark

Mark -

I think I've had exactly the same problem in my 96.

Traced it down to TWO blown fuses in the panel under the dashboard; the alarm ECU was not getting power for the circuit that drives the locks. My guess is some of the locks is sticking, resulting in larger current draw and a blown fuse.

Consider replacing one of these fuses with a circuit breaker - since I've fixed the bug in mine, the alarm and door locks were okay.

btw, obviously, replacing the alarm ECU with another one didn't change a thing.

Thanks peter,
The fuses i have checked are in the panel under the steering wheel, and i only see one for the alarm. Are there others under there somewhere? I am also worried that replacing the alarm ecu will be a waste.

Thanks,
Mark

You need to see the wiring diagram (from Rave CD or other source). The alarm box gets power at two of its pins, and the power comes from two different fused circuits in the panel.
I don't have Rave here and don't remember which fuses to check, you could check them all if you wanted to.
Just FYI - every other time the truck wouldn't start; I had to dis - and reconnect the battery to fix that. My wife wasn't happy to have to do it once or twice a day :-)

Where is a good place to pick up a Rave CD?
