My little Disco bitch needs some smacking around. But in the meantime, I could use some help trying to figure out why she's whining all the time. I had what I described as a steady shrill whine. I replaced the bearings which reduced it to an intermitent and occasional chirping. Today I drained and refilled my swivel balls. Just as I was driving around thinkging about how nice it was to not have that pesky noise around the little hussy started chirping again. Anyone have any ideas. It's not steady and there's no way to induce it. Just happens for about 15 seconds and goes away for anywhere from 10 mins. to several hours. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You've no doubt made her mad now. I'd suggest obsequiously polishing her poor, tired tire rims and getting her a nice bottle of air freshener.

Rob,
Aside from the noise changing after I replaced the bearings, no. It always sounds the same but it will start anywhere from 30 mph to 70 mph. Where would you start looking for said stone? Keep in mind I've already taken the rotors off in order to do the bearings. Also, it's the driver's side front that's chirping.

D. and Michelle,
There's no doubt she's pissed at me. Her wheels are now the factory spare steelies, she's got one turn signal completely busted out, one that's holding water, and yesterday I stripped her of the prized brushbar in order to repaint it. I've always been a fan of tough love though.

interesting, i dont think its a stone now, they usually sound like the Rotation of a tire, speeking up as car speeds up and the noise usually goes away at high speed.

might be t-case bearing but it just seems odd. i guess i am not experienced enough to guess at this one. would need to hear it.

Brakes? When you hear the chirping, step on the brakes. If the noise goes away, Voila! There is the problem.

yep, feather the brake pedal and high-pitched whine goes away....mine does it all the time. Pads probably rubbing on the rotors (when brake pedal is released). Have to find some heavy-duty springs to replace that weak shit on the pad retaining pins.

Bam! I think we have a winner. It's all making sense now. Last time I changed the pads I just left the old springs! Damnit. Well, a couple of hundred dollars and a whole lot of knuckle banging later I've got the $7.00 answer. Ain't that some shit. Thanks guys. If I was 21 I'd send you a case of beer.

Nah! You don't want to do that. I think at one time or another we've all felt that. Anyways... its cool you found the problem.

Some copper grease at the back of the brake pads will also bring relief…

See, and you were blaming her for all the problems and getting ready to dump her. Sounds to me like you need a little smacking around! Make it up to her. Fix her up and take her for a long drive in the mountains this weekend...

Thanks Rob, good thinking.

Michelle,
Does this mean I have to put on the pink ribbon antenna topper?

Later,

Its always the owner....Never the Rover...

I bet you felt real bad for saying such a mean thing about your poor misunderstood Landy.. She is the best 4x4xfar you know..and only doing what she can with what she has to work with... lol

If you could have recorded the squeek and played it backwards. You would have heard the truck yellg "Hey !! You left the old springs in !!"
teeheehee :-)

You're right Alex, at one time or another we have ALL felt like Ramsay, but got over it after we found out the "trouble" was not as serious as we feared $$$$
Now the only problem that I have is that my girlfriend is jealous of the way I treat my LR.
Flowers work......for my girlfriend I mean.

The question should be, "why don't you have comprehensive insurance?". We're not talking about a Ford Explorer where the parts are cheap and easy to find.

Guess I'm just living on the edge Ron.

When was the last time you made an insurance claim for random parts though? It's only going to be an issue if I cause a wreck. Which I'm fairly determined not to do.

I see insurance claims anywhere from $50.00 to $10,000.00. Anything over a deductible can be claimed.

Don't you think that claims for $50.00 and the like are responsible for the skyrocketing price of insurance? Both in the auto and medical world. Damn shame man.

Are you at liberty to say which company you work for? I love my Amica.

Take care.
