Coil: Just replaced old coil. Resistance on old measured 3.7ohm. On new (not OEM)it measures 1.7ohm. Maybe somebody knows what it 'should be'? Ballast resistor: Prev owner disconnected this. Could this deed have stuffed the (above) coil, or just the points? Plug leads: Just checked these in total darkness whilst idling. Can see some random, blueish spark activity along the leads. Its not exactly lighting up the engin bay, and engin idles ok. Is this normal or time for new leads? Jaco white '72 3.5L V8 2-door Rangie

Lets try again.. 1. Just replaced old coil. Resistance on old measured 3.7 ohm. On new (not OEM)it measures 1.7 ohm. Maybe somebody knows what the resistance 'should be'? 2. Prev owner disconnected coil's ballast resistor (12V-9V). Could this have stuffed the coil, or just the points? 3. Just checked plug leads in total darkness whilst idling. Can see some random, blueish spark activity along the leads. Its not exactly lighting up the engin bay, and engin idles ok. Is this normal or time for new leads? Jaco, You can use a coil without a ballast resistor as long as you purchase one for that purpose. My 110 V8 has a resistor but my '79 RR does not. If you can see blue flashes with your current spark leads then they need to be replaced. First time you get them damp when wading you will have a problem. good luck, Mike |
