I have a 96 DI and I need to replace the rotors. How difficult are the hubs to deal with. I've never worked on hubs before and I've been told that the hubs can be time consuming to repack without a hub repacker "tool". Are they pretty straight forward to deal with?

hub repacker tool? wow, always learn something.

you need a 52mm or 2 1/6" hub nut socket, can be had from Atlantic British or other rover place, or NAPA (say you've got a CJ). You can get by with a chisel and channel locks, other than that, I haven't used any special tools.

Don't you need a "tool" to repack the grease in the bearings?

you can easily do it using the palm of your hand.

Your hand and some grease will work fine. Just goop it up really well, overflowing on the outside, then just smash it together with your two palms. That grease on the top will get forced down in the bearings.

Rinse/repeat a few times, for each side and it should be plenty greased.

or buy the 'tool' at the local autoparts store for $5. Its a plastic funnel with threaded center. Picture two funnels, both with threaded female ends going thru them, and a male threaded rode with holes that you put the bearing in between the two funnels, thread the rod thru the 'bearing/funnel' sandwhich and on the male road, theres a nipple for your grease gun. Hook it up, pump and the grease goes into the male rod, out holes in it to the inside of the bearing sandwhich, forcing grease until it goes thru and out the bearing.
