Going to work the other day and a pebble flew up and cracked the windshield. It looks like I took a round from a B-B gun but no "cracking" as of yet.
Any suggestions as to a fix to keep from a crack forming and a costly replacement?

I asked the same question about a week ago. The same thing happened to me - and I've got the heated windshield.

I was told it would be about $50 or so from those who've had it fixed. But I haven't taken it to the "Glass Doctor" yet.

And BTW. I discovered the other day that a rock had hit my front driver's side headlight and broke that too. This really pisses me off because I broke both headlights a month ago off-road and this was the NEW ONE!!!!

I'm going to RoverConnection now to order a headlight and headlight protectors.

I hate rocks.

Matt, who is your insurance company? I would check with them. Mine is State Farm and anytime I get a cracked glass (has happened on two vehicles) I call them and they give me a choice, have it repaired or replace the glass. This doesn't affect my rates either.

Matt

I used to be an insurance agent. Many companies including mine (Progressive) will fix a chip at no up-front cost thru a third party company like glass doctor or safelite. This however results in a comprehensive claim and may increase your rate at renewal. Some companies do not increase rates unless a certain $$$ threshold is met for claims in a period. I just pay the $30-50 and have the chip repaired directly thru a glass company.

just go to kragens or your local auto part store and buy a glass repair kit...it is super easy!!! and only around 12 dollars ive used this twice on my disco and once on my 93 lwb with heated windshield....if the crack is not all the way through the heated windshield it will definitly work. its a lot easier than you think

funny. i just had a local company out to see if they could fix a small crack in a heated windshield of one of our rovers. he said no. it was within the heater elements and did not want to mess with them.
he only charges $20 to fix the small dimple cracks. works about 80% of the time. and 100% of the time will keep it from progressing into a larger crack.
