High idle woes continue. Disconnected IAC and fared better but being a perfectionist cannot continue like this. Re-connected IAC idle way up. Around 1500 at times but sometimes resets to a normal level. Never consistent. Dealer says problem leads back to faulty ECU. May have to pull trigger and replace but checking every last option before doing so. Have lead on slightly used ECU.

My 93 RRC had a similar problem, high idle and also stalling when hot. I changed the IAC valve with an equivalent (Wells AC102) and adjusted the base idle. It's been fine for a year. The part is less than $40 and may be worth a try before messing with the ECU.

Hmmmmm. I went on the Pine barrens run last Sunday with my stock 97 disco, and after many water holes, my idle shot up to 15-17 hundred.

Now, I'm wondering about the ECU. After one especially deep hole where the water came over the hood, just as I made it out in triumph, the motor cut out.

After about an hour or so of everyone in the group helping and trying to trouble shoot the problem we decided to pull the ECU and see if it had gotten wet. Sure enough, there was some water in there. Dried it in the sun, put it back in, and the truck started right up....but the idle stayed at between 1000 and 1500 rpms.

When I got home, I took out the IAC and it was coated with carbon type gunk. I cleaned it out with carb cleaner until the tip was shiny, but I still have the idle problem.

I turn the key on once the idle is fine. I stop at the corner store turn it on again it shoots up and stays there. Back and forth. It's trying to drain the sanity out of me. I m A novice. Is there any tricky parts to removing the IAC and cleaning?

The trickiest is not dropping the damn screw into the valley. I had to buy a replacement ar Sears.

To clean it, use carburator cleaner. Don't press in on the valve in the IAC, just turn it. Laso check undr the sleeve and spring to see if there is any more gunk and clean there as well.

Hope that helps.
