Hi folks, I'm a newbie (had my '95 Disco I for 3 months now) but we're ready for a long road trip to Maine and need roof top storage. I DO NOT have much money, so I want to know if any have had experience with the following: * AB's Wilderness rack * AB's Safari rack * Yakima LoadWarrior * Proline's Safari rack Before anyone says "spend the money for a Hannibal, etc." I just don't have it and vacation time is here. What's the "basket" style rack I can buy for $500 or less, inclusive of all necessary mounts, etc. Appreciate the help! |

If you're looking for cheap, take a look at Surco racks. Check out Blake Luse under the photo gallery, he has one on his rig.. Have a safe trip.. RS |

Mark, I have an LR rack now and love it. I had a Loadwarrior before, and it did the trick as well. It just did not have the room that the LR rack has. I think you can pick up similar racks at www.roverparts.com for about $500 |

Thanks Robert and Chad. BTW, those Surco racks may be the answer...the price is right and I liked the looks on Blake's Disco. Anybody else have suggestions? |

...for about a $600 bill you can pick up a great utility trailer from Home Depot and have something that's really useful and easy to get cargo in and out of without climbing up on your truck. Plus you can use it for all that yard stuff and trash hauling the rest of the year. PLUS, you don't have to tolerate that wind rush noise all year every time you go after groceries. +PLUS, you can drop it when you get to some park and not have to carry around all your equipment when you hit the trail for some real off roading. The one down side is...it's just so unsexy. |

I have a Yakima Mega Warrior. I originally bought it for my 88 Range Rover, when a saftey devices rack was not an option. I like it, it easily comes off and you can fit all the yakima goodies on it. While my Mega Warrior works fine for me, if I was buying a rack for my Disco, I would buy the Saftey Devices (Adventure) rack, nothing looks better and it holds lots of gear. |
