Okay, so we fix the problem on my friends 99D2 and a new one starts or was masked by the loudness of the leak. One bolt was loose causing a leak. Now there is a strong vibration under load. Idling, reving in park, or going down hill, there is no vibration. Only up hill or with your foot in it does it vibrate. Could a leak cause the engine to run too rich or not rich enough causing a plug to foul? I haven't had a chance to pull the plugs. It had a valve job in the upper 30ks and it now has 70k. Could the VSS cause a vibration under load? Just a thought. Thanks |

Jack: Can't say definitively whether leak would have caused problem - doesn't seem so though. Is it engine vibration or vehicle vibration? Vibration under load going uphill was the symptom of our rotoflex going out. Or alternately, a bad u-joint if the 99s are u-joint equipped. I can't remember whether they started putting the rotoflexs back in. We swapped ours (in a 95) for a u-joint rear drive shaft, and have been vibration-free ever since. Good luck. John

We pulled the plugs and check the wires and everything. It all looked fine. I'm not too familiar with the D2 but I didn't find a rotoflex on the front but there appears to be one on the rear. It looked fine. I could not find any visible signs of anything. It does not have any vibes at idle. The vibes kick in at around 35mph under acceleration. I did notice one thing, has anyone ever experienced the running water sound in an engine? It's like you can hear the gas being supplied to the engine or something. |
