Looks interesting.

Wonder what the final price tag will be?

ITs finished... waterpump fixed as well

Website isnt though...just to tired to deal with that at the momment.. ok, lazy...

Final price for just engine swap stuff was $11k~ish... I added a busload of other stuff, which kicked it up quite a bit, but had nothing to do with the engine swap. There are alot of these engines for sale at the momment around $5k - $6k but please understand that if you buy one of those, your still gonna need another roughly $4k in stock Land Rover parts, and pay for some intricate fabrication work. Thats why the "kits" are $10k cause they include all that. I get alot of emails about that saying "but I saw one for $5000" is it the same? Yes its the same, but having the engine isnt all you need. So if your doing this, dont think you can do it all and save money.. The cost of some of the LR parts alone even through the discount places is going to be $$$. The kits are a darn good value if you ask me, not only for the $$ , but in terms of time. Waiting for one last oddball part from the UK is not what you want to be doing, and the stuff is slower then ever with customs and the homeland security traffic jams.

135 miles on it now and running stronger and stronger.. well, the engine is training me how to drive it I mean...

I would do it all again in a heartbeat.

Richard --

That looks great!!! If my 4.6 ever dies on me I'll probably go the Powerstroke route.

Did you do the install yourself? How many hours labor do you have in this?

Those wheel arches are off a D2.

The diesel now has 230 miles on it, and oh gosh, lets see, Ive used about 3/8 of a tank.. hehehe... I have some local bets going on what my cruising range is now. Im guessing 680 miles per tank.

A good guess on the labor for the engine alone ( i did alot of other stuff) would be about 80 hours. If I did it again probably 70. I didnt rush or anything, but being so inexperienced there some things that were hard for me to do the first time, then a cinch the second time.

Drive around with your air filter out if you need an excuse to get one. =)

Does the $10K Powerstroke kit give you step by step instructions or are you on your own to figure it out?

My problem is that I'm much of a mechanic and I'd hate to have to pay somebody for 70-80 hours labor on this project. If I could get a competent mechanic to pull the old v8 and install the diesel, I could probably tackle the rest myself, but only if I had some instructions.

Norm,

hahaha, instructions????? I laugh at that, because there were... well... none? There was a sheet describing the general process but it is somewhat limited to.

Step 1- remove V8
Step 2 - Install new engine
Step 3 - Drive it...

ok, im exagerating a bit, but not much...

When I get the desire to sit in front of my computer for more then 5 mins, I will be putting up all the pictures of the step by step process of my install which could certainly be used as an instruction book.
