Finally! Great News! The answers for D2 front recovery point when TJM Winch Bumper is installed:

There is no viable solution for mounting a front recovery point, shackle mount, or jate ring available at this time that will work. :-(

However, there are several "big dogs" that have been working on possible solutions! :-) :-)

Whenever someone invents this solution, please post on Dweb, I will sign up as first customer for your invention! :-) :-) :-)

Thanks! Jamie

I have a TJM bumper on my D1 with Grainger recovery points bolted on. What is the diff. with a D2?

Jaime

You've got a winch, which places you head and shoulders over those of us TJM owners without a winch.

Since you have the T-15, you have even more options than I do, as I have the T-17 without the reinforced "T" cutout.

I'd feel very comfortable if I were you. You at least have the option of doing a self-recovery with the winch using another vehicle as an anchor point.

Jate rings to your frame horns. That sounds like the best solution.

Has anyone has actually tried the Jate Rings solution on a TJM bumper?

Thanks,
Mike B.

Jamie - Just wondering if you already have a winch, why would you need another front recovery point? Or rather, why do you feel the need for another recovery point? You seem to be quite obsessed with this.

A winch is most certainly not a recovery point - never, ever, ever, ever use a locked winch drum as a recovery point!

What I mean is that she has a winch already so like Koby said, she's ahead of most people already and should be able to get herself out of most situations. And judging from the picture of her truck in her profile, she could probably mount a JATE ring on the passenger side of the frame where the spare tie down bracket is if it isn't being used which in the picture looks like it isn't.

I don't know how to use my winch (yet). I am laughing at that, so go ahead and laugh too. I made a commitment that I would not use my winch until I receive my training by Bill Burke. When I make a comittment, I stick to it. That pretty much means avoiding putting myself in a vulnerable situation where front recovery might be otherwise impossible.

In addition to that, I've seen more than my fair share of catastrophic accidents to be willing to put others in danger because of my lack of knowledge - even if someone else "thought" they could operate my winch safely. I would prefer to never have a medivac helicopter rain on my parade...

Training with Bill is not that far way...I can wait.

Besides, I know that one of you geniuses will come up with something soon. That's how we all got the equipment we have now. Gotta start somewhere... right??

Another Dweb member told me that whoever does come up with a viable solution will make some money, because everyone with same problem will buy the solution! I can't speak for anyone else, but I will!

Even when I am trained and have mastered winch use, :-) a back up plan is always a good thing to have :-) sure widens the safety zone :-) :-)

Thanks! Jamie :-)

so, have at it:

How about these?

You mentioned going to Rubicon w/Bill Burke soon. EE (I think) is kinda in that neck of the woods so you could probably swing by and get them to install them for you.

Max,

Those were one of the possibilities I explored. John Lee said they won't work. I truly appreciate your suggestion.

No plans to go to Rubicon, I don't know where that it -- is it far from Moab?

Thanks so much, Jamie
