Hi, thanks for the advice on my last post regarding the poor starting and erratic idle. I replaced the distributor cap, rotor spark plugs, leads, flame trap, all hoses for PCV and thoroughly cleaned everything with carb cleaner also cleaned the stepper thoroughly (still suspect a change might be on the cards). she doesn't hunt on idle anything like before and seems to idle much stronger now. I certainly seem to have fixed somethiing :-) However, just for kicks with the engine cold and idling I decided to throttle her a bit. Much better response, but when I started to throttle and up and down rapidly after about 5 seconds it seems that it couldn't keep up with the change in throttle pace and the revs dies and eventuall the motor cut out (at least I wasn't out and about!) Anybody have any ideas. I did hear before that the throttle potentiometer could cause problems such as poor idle etc. Could this cause the cut out problem I described above. I went armed with a voltmeter to check if it was in the 0.3 +/- 0.5 range, and noticed (while looking for how to get to the wires to test) that the wires on the ECU side (i.e. on the female connector not the male connector attached to the potentiometer itself) that the wires were actually baring through the insulation and seemed to be in a very bad state. Could this cause the problem? maybe they are shorting and not sending the right signal? would the motor even idle and drive ok if this were the case? sorry about the length of this post - but I am again in the head scratching mode with this beast. Seems to drive fine, but I reckon that this is indicative of some other problem that unless fixed will eventually leave me stranded. Freddy P.S. Still don't suspect the fuel pump as I have no real power drop through the rev range, but who knows |

That's certainly a good place to start looking - eliminate any obviously worn wiring. You might also check the fuel filter and injectors... -seanA |
