Well after a little debate and looking at what was out on the market I installed a center diff lock on my 2000 D2(seems much better when I am slopping through the muck in the woods now)
I guess Trac. Contr. with the diff locked is a good start for a mild off road guy like myself since it feels better now.

I bought a kit from from one of the local Rover guys down here in SC (Jay)(I heard about it on the disco2owners site and e mailed him) he just happened to be pretty close.

I was amazed at how nifty a little kit it is, it is actuated with a cable and the knob mounts next to my mirror adjustor knob thing. The cable runs to the passenger side floor and then out through a 1/4" hole and attaches to a arm that you put on the transfer case shaft (getting the arm on takes some arm twisting at my age but was do'able and fit great) other than that it was just a case of making some adjustments and then testing it. I was amazed at how easy the cable moves considering it's pretty long, it only takes two fingers and allows you to feel the case "shifting into lock". The kit came with everything I needed to put it in, and decent (not great) instructions that are pretty easy to follow.
Best part was the kit was only $165 and Jay dropped it off at my house on his way home from work.
Anyone wanting a diff lock and not wanting the hassle of ripping out the center console may want to consider this kit. I installed mine in about 4 hours but needed a break after that arm install.

That sounds pretty cool! Do you have any photos, or do you have a link to a site that shows this set up?

If your a member of Disco2Owners on yahoo I know there are a few photos in the files section, otherwise just e mail Jay and I am sure he'll be happy to shoot you off some info. he's at Leftcoast At Hotmail dot com ...lets hope that shows up. I didn't take any install photos (I know I know take photos) but I know jay has some to send.
I just gave my CDL a try while driving out the dirt/muddy road at our gun club, it seems to make the car more stable(but the steering a little more heavy) all in all I am real happy.

Do it you'll like it.

I think it is, I told Jay tons of Rover guys watch e-bay. It's part of how I keep mine running :-) anyway the kit works well and the install is not that bad at all, and I hear the install instructions have color photos now so I think the worst part of the kit is now fixed.
I like mine,
Jim

I just noticed that Jay at Left Coast Rover Parts has another CDL kit on e-bay with a start of like $89, I spoke with him early today and he said he would just like to get a few more out in the field, I guess including mine there are like 10-12 kits running around and people all seem to like them.
Anyway if your looking for a CDL kit thats a bargain, I paid the normal $175 for mine.
