Found a good price on a stainless steel brush bar (199)any reason not to go with stainless steel (fit, finish, durability, upkeep, etc)?

Watch out for the "bling" factor, as some people here think chrome is some sort of crime!!!

Noticed that. As a newbie, I'm trying to balance use with looks with the fact that I won't be off-roading in Malaysia anytime soon. Is stainless steel the same as chrome...I thought stainless would be more "matte" and less "bling"?

if it's shiny, it's "bling", and there is nothing matte about stainless steel.

Chrome and stainless steel are not the same thing....Luke, please check your facts. They are both silver, if the steel is not painted or powder coated some other color.

Bling is in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I think any brush bar is "bling" on a truck that doesn't go off road, unless you run into a lot of animals (or people) in your daily travels. :-)

Mark, if you like it, get it.

Mike,
I was never intendng to imply that chrome and stainless were the same thing. My comment about chrome and bling was strictly sarcasm, which was somehow lost on you so I don't think "checking my facts" is going to be necessary.
Kindly,
Luke

p.s. Get the brush bar, as you can always resell the item if you don't like the way it looks.

Truck is black, with black running boards (diamond plate insets). I think it would look good on the truck. And here's a larger issue...we all love/hate? the same vehicle, so why the emphasis on what's "authentic" and what's not (i.e. "bling"). I will do some mild off-roading, but the majority of the time I have to work for a living, take my wife out, etc. and want the truck to look great as well as being capable. Thoughts?

"bling" does not refer to non authentic rover parts, more on stuffing 22's under the fenders of your Disco II. I think most people are upgrading their OE stuff with non LandRover gear (SafariGard, Rovertym, ARB...). How about we all just forget that I said "bling" as this was really done to humor myself. Ultimately, you have to drive your vehicle, so you make the choice. If you like the stainless guard, get the damn thing. I have an ARB Bar on my truck and many would swear that I am an idiot and should have gone with another brand. It's all subjective and purely related to your driving habits. If you refer to my profile / pic, you'll note I still have running boards as well. Not to handy for off-road, but like you Mark, my wife (she's 5'3") needs to be able to get into truck. My vehicle suits me and MY needs, I don't modify it for anyone on this website other than ME. It's your money and your car, so ultimately you need to make yourself happy and do what you like.

p.s. Nothin' wrong with Dubs by the way, my 2002 Ram Crew Cab has 20's and I wouldn't have it any other way.

My favorite "bling" is seeing the Mercedes ML "Mini-Van" with chrome brush guards all the way around, in the valet parking lot at the shopping mall.

Sorry I couldn't help myself...

In my opinion, if the truck is black, then chrome is not so bad, but I personally would never do it.

Luke, thanks for the feedback. Rainey, I guess your remark " I personally would never do it" is what I meant above...is it because you just don't like the look (which is fine) or that you would not consider it "authentic"... by authentic I do not mean from LR but authentic by the self imposed rules of any clique (which, right or wrong) is what Dweb is for. How about some individuality for Disco owners and respect for those that don't feel the need to have what everyone else has. Thoughts?

the truth of the matter is Stainless Steel can be shinny or matte.

thru a tecnique know as "polishing" you can make certain metals shine. stainless steel is one of them.

"Found a good price on a stainless steel brush bar (199)any reason not to go with stainless steel (fit, finish, durability, upkeep, etc)?"

In order:
fit- depends who built it
finish- it'll be matte or polished
durability- shit loads better the OE vinyl coated thingy...comparing to ARB etc...is apples and oranges.
upkeep- stainless is....painless

etc...well that has been beaten to death.

As Blue said awhile back...if you like it and it fits your needs...go for it.
My .02
