I see the drain plug and the fill plug. Do you use a pump to re-fill? You re-fill to the bottom of the re-fill plug hole right? I guess it will flow out if you overfill?

If a pump is to be used any recommendations?

Should you change the filter every 30K or adhere to the manual? - "no subsequent change needed after the first change"

thanks

Changing the filter certainly couldn't hurt, but you do have to take the pan off, and re-seal it afterward.

Refilling is done by filling it to the fill-hole, and (with the engine running) running through all the gears. This will cause more transmission fluid to be drawn in. Keep it filled to the fill-hole through the process.

stupid question but ....

have someone shifting into the gears as you fill?

sounds dangerous to place into gear while under the truck - not that my wife want to kill me but.....

Yep, not fun. The shop manual says to do it with the handbrake applied. That, plus the footbrake applied by a friend/wife should keep it from rolling. If you're still worried, you can put it up on four or more jacks.

The shop manual also recommends replacing both the filler and drain plug washers.

So do you run through the gears when emptying it too?

Why engine off? I mean a few seconds thats all. Coz I think not much oil comes out if you just drain like that.

I've seen a few people here advocating doing a few drain/fill cycles to get all the old fluid out.
