yes have used, the military ignition kit got it a few years back from john craddock in england, (www.johncraddockltd.co.uk )have also seen a few advertised on ebay recently. tried the silicon seal route, basically covering it all in silicon grease and hope for the best but thought the kit was better and to be fair even though it is quite expensive £400 have had no problems, did have a snorkel from a 110 adapted to fit the centre air intake of the disco but have just bought the safari snorkel on recomendation and have not fully tested it yet.
trans breathers extended to hight of snorkel easy enough just lengthen the original short ones by adding longer pipework, never bothered with touching starter or altinator and have been wading to half way up the doors and had no probs

to dean , yes mate it is personal preference ,as far as the snorkel is concerned, as it has not been tested on my vehicle yet to extreme but going on recomendation from friends here it seems to be the best option for me. have to adapt pipework slightly cause i got a central air intake , the old 200 series disco 3.5 v8 on carbs,
and the snorkel fitting kit is for injection models but that was easy enough to do. as i said had a adapted 110 snorkel bit like the new g4 challenge ones but didint like the look of it. considered the mantec version also but just went on the recomend of everyone else,. if there is some inherent problem with the safari snorkel then please tell. always willing to find out more.

just a pick to show the screened type leads,
this one isnt from a disco but they are very similar. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2425854774&category=31348 . hope the link works, as you can see the leads are sealed from distributor to plug, same for coil , etc.

Colin,

No just trying to be fair, that's all. I just don't see how "safari snorkels definatly the best" can be stated if you not checked out the mantec or any others. The yahoo group I am in just ordered bulk price for 15 mantecs for discos, so they can't be that bad. (and in my personal opinion, the mantecs are designed better and look better).

Thanks!

I dunno the exact price, but I think about the same as a safari snorkel. The group is private, but I'm sure if you gather enough people here you could get quite a few willing to buy in bulk at a similar price and deal. I already had one so I wasn't paying much attention.

yes dean, appreiciate what you are saying, all comes down to personal choice, must admit the mantec looks cleaner and offcourse they have a huge following, my choice of the safari snorkel was made on the recomendation of friends using them and most had said to me that was the best so thats what i bought, ideally would like to try them all and compare , saying that i like the purposfull look of the safari , above the mantec.
thats not a critisism of the mantec. each to their own.

Well, I soaked my ECU 2 weeks ago, so I'd like to come up with a way of waterproofing it. I'm thinking of putting it in a rubbermaid box, and throw in a silica gel pack or two to absorb condensation. Still have to figure out a way to seal the wires going into the box. Maybe silicone

I just swamped mine as well. Anyone have a link to photos of examples of ecu relocation and waterproofing ?

TIA

Jaime - yes thats exactly what I did to the ecu under my seat (the traansmission ecu that is). (D2: The engine ecu is higher up above the brake pedals and behind the kick panel).

Get a box that has a very tight-fitting waterproof lid, cut a slot out of the edge of the lid to pass in the wire. I velcroed my ecu to the lid, and put a huge silica gel bag also in the container. Seal it up with any silicone around where the wire goes in. (Bake the silica gel in microwave to dry it initially)

Ron sealed his defender's engine ecu by putting silicone around the whole damn thing.

Jason - what happened? Cut out? Ok when dried off?
