im leaving at 6:00 monday morning and i will be gone for 3-4 months. I will have 2 vehicles sitting idle at my house in my absense, one is a 1990 range rover and the other is a 2001 audi TT. The range rover battery is being disconnected, thats a given.. my problem is should i also disconnect the TT battery?? With all the computers and crap going on in this thing i dont know if having the battery off for that long would shut the car down or put it into some kind of lock down mode. Of course i think of this on a sunday when there is no audi service available. Would anyone here have any thoughts on this?? anything would help.. thanks.

I would say maybe get a friend or something come and start it every week for about 5-10 minutes. We have a Mercedes CLK and we did not drive it during the winter for about 1 or 2 months and the battery was dead. They had to come put a new battery in and it had to go to the service department to get some of the electronics back on track. That I think would be your best bet.

as far as the battery goes there is a product called a "battery tender" i used it to keep the batteries on my race bike up during low usage times.... its a plug in and leave it deal. you might give that a look at for the battery.

Ya, go to an auto parts store and get one of those. They are a small solar panal that plugs into the aux power port in the car. It gives a slow, small charge to the battery during daylight hours, just enouph to replenish what is lost by alarms, computers, clocks, etc... $20, $30 maybe.

If the car is outside do what Eric said. Here is a URL for one company that makes them. (I have no experience with this company, but have used Solar Panels as a battery maintainer.

If it's kept inside, then just get the non-sun powered battery maintenance things. About $40.00

Or, go with the Solar Panel set next to a big lightbulb
