I noticed that my center console is getting very warm which can't be good for the electric switches in it. What would cause this?

Is it the entire console or just the shifter plate? Because the shifter plate has lights in it that get pretty warm.

When I use mine for a while, ie 50 minutes or more or if I am wheeling everything down there gets hot. The window switches, the whole console. Is that bad?

Those lights are tiny, I can't imagine that they get hot.

I can feel a decent amount of heat on the metal portion of my shifter, but it is too hot to be those tiny bulbs and the center console is warm.

Oh yea i don't even have those lights, they are all burned out, so that won't cause it.

It is a 99 D1 and I notice it on the CDL and regular shifter, the window controls, heated seat controls and even blowing out of the vents on the back side of the console. It seems out of the ordinary, of course then, this is no ordinary vehicle!

I say pull the console and take a look. Someone may have been in there before and removed some insulation or cover or whatever. Take a look and figure something-out to address the issue. Taking out the console for the first time may seem intimidating, but it's not that bad. I have had mine off 4 times so far.
If you really had issues, your dash would indicate such (hopefull) but just in case, inspect the trans fluid to see if it has burned.

Good Luck.

I have the same damn problem. Noticed it on a trip from VA to NY. Didn't think much of it, since as people said, odd things just seem to happen to these trucks.
