I recently took my disco II to be diagnosed for the ABS/TC/HDC lights on at the dealership. they toldme that the two front abs sensors were gone bad, and to replace them it would estimate at 1,300.00!!!! I smell rip-off on this. anyway, I was planning to do it my self, but I would like to be sure that they are really gone. perhaps they say they were bad to get some money out of me. how can I know if they are gone??

also, the checked the service engine light and they found out that the mass air flow sensor is also bad. where is this sensor located? is it easy to replace?

any ideas on where to get the above parts at a inexpensive price.

thanks,

I second that - there was recall for the ABS system - some kind of computer control. Might be related.

You can always try Nathan at www.discountrovers.com

Let us know what happens.

It's a bunch of BS....dealer tried to rip me off with the same thing on my 99. They did 1 hub 'under warranty' (I was at 51000 miles), then 5 days later all the lights came back on....they wanted $700 for the other one....I said no way and argued they hadn't finished the service ticket out. I lost the argument...but they have lost a future sale. They reset the lights for free....big of them...and guess what...they never came on again....that was 10000 miles ago. You smell a rip off?....I smell an upcoming class action lawsuit against LRNA for failing to recall this fault but instaed seeming to turn it into major money for the dealers.....hummmmph
Peace

Same issue here with the ABS hub, but we're still under warranty. The left hub was replaced, then only a few days later the lights came back on. Dealer tried to blame it on the brake pads I put on the Disco. Found out the fault was on the right hub this time. I was so pissed I told them to give me the car back without doing any work. In the meantime, they reset the lights and they haven't been back on for over a month.

It must be a major rip-off some dealers are trying to pull. One dealer told me they are having major issues with the hubs and this particular dealer is willing to fix it for us when the lights come back on.

I have the exact same problem. a couple of months ago I noticed the clip on the MAF sencer (at the air intake box)was loose. I took the other one of and disconnected the air box to clean. When I put it back the engine service light was on. I did get the dealer to clear it for me when he was activating the heated windscreen I got installed with the test book and said it was indicating MAF problems. Since researching this issue it loks like if it is the MAF the MAF controller defaults to a setting that allows you to have no problems but might affect your emmissions when you have it tested. Anyway the next day after the fault was cleared it came back on again...??
Last week my wife was driving it and hit a small bump on the road. Eversince then the ABS, hill descent and TC lights have came on...! The garage I took it to (Independent Land Rover garage)said it might be related to a transmission issue. he is waiting on his Test Book geting repaired before he can print out the fault codes for me.....Has anyone else had this issue...if so what where the fixes that were known to work.

I did the recall already when I was at around 35K, but now I am at 78K. I really do not have complains machanically speaking, but the lights are a bit annoying. the strange thing is that, while the TC and HDC lights are also on, these systems seem to be working fine as I noticed a couple times I went off-roading. I believe that the ABS thinks for the rest of the systems but I am not sure on this. when you guys talk abot the hub, is the hub that houses the sensors? where are they located?

thanks

On the D2 the ABS sensors are sealed in the wheel hub. That's why they're expensive. Good news is you would also get new bearings. Bad news is you might not need them. Just another one of the non-servicable units LR used on the D2.

Jorge, have you done your brakes recently? I had that after I had done my brakes, rotors and all. What I was told is the ABS sensor is set to a sensativity that if effected to out of spec the lights will come on; very common after a brake job. I was told that in fact the sensor is OK but it might keep erroring out. Thats why it is OK for you to drive while you wait for a part. Mine was done under warranty. If the ABS system was not working properly they would be liable if you drove off the lot and crashed. I would try to get it reset and try that first as the system is working.

The MAF is easy to install and is located just after the air box that holds your air filter. It clips into the hose and has a wire coming out of it. Easy to replace, unclip and unplug then install and do in reverse. Replace your MAF if you are getting errors. They are cheaper than they used to be and will improve gas mileage and engine performance.

Well I'm glad to find out I'm not the only one with ABS problems. 99 DII, lost ABS/ETC while wheeling in Monterrey MX last month. Changed under warranty 2 weeks ago. BEFORE I could even get off road this past weekend, ABS/ETC out again. I won't be able to make it to the dealer for 2 weeks (nearest dealer 300 miles away). First time was the left front, now I'm beting that it will be the right front. All I can say is that I'm very glad I have the CDL hooked up and that I'll be getting an ARB locker in the rear the day after the ABS is fixed.
