I have noticed a rattling noise coming off the engine when I step on the gas at different speeds. as soon as I release the gas the rattling goes away. it happens at speeds greater than 50 mph. any ideas?? |

Could be rattlin' cats. I've got one. The matrix in the catalytic converters breaks down and rattles around with age. Mine sounds like a loose washer on a big bolt, and is somewhat dependent upon temperature, like when cold but not hot. Low tech treatment is to use a drywall screw to try to hold it in place, but then the cat is doomed...might get you a few more week's worth. Cheers |

Does sound like something loose in the converter. I had this on my '95, and the tech at my dealer tapped on the cat with a rubber mallet while I listened. You could hear the rattle then, and while driving at various speeds. |
