So I have this friend...that has the ABS light on his dash. He just had one side of his rear axle done over. Now the ABS light is on...road test shows (slam breaks) no trouble...ABS brakes worked well. ideas???....reset ABS switch maybe?

Dean,

Could be one of those occasions where the rear axle work has nothing to do with the ABS light. Just something to keep in mind is the Break Switch which may be on the way out. If you do a search for Break Switch you will find out all you need to know.

But then again it may not be.

Hope this is useful.

Check the connections to the wheel sensors. They may have come undone during the work. I had this happen to a friend of mine in the past. Even if one sensor is disconnected ABS will still work on the other 3 wheels.

This sounds like it might be a bad, disconnected or poorly seated ABS sensor to me (especially after work on the rear axle). I think if the ABS sensor light is on, the ABS system is automatically off. When you slammed on the brakes, did the ABS pump come on (hear it and feel the pulsing through the brake pedal?)? If you are uncertain, pull the fuse to the ABS system and see if it changes anything. If its not the connections, you'll have to have the dealer diagnose it with their computer. I did this, for $75 they found the bad sensor and I replaced it DIY and saved about $500.
