Installed my ECU with the Powerchip on Wednesday. Just to give you a rundown in case any of you are planning on installing one.
This is on a 98 D1 with ported, polished, and port matched heads, KN filter, and full synthetics. Before the install, I was getting 12 MPG in town, 14 highway. I had a flat spot at 2250 RPM in the torque curve. I was able to keep up with a D2 with the 4.6.
After install, I drove to Louisiana, 300 miles each way, I got 14 MPG on the highway. In town, the verdict is still out, but it looks to be about 10 MPG. My flat spot has moved to 2600 RPM and is less obvious. No improvement in acceleration.
One good note. The engine runs smoother kind of like a Cadillac.
Value for the money after 5 days, 0 out of 5 stars. Would I recommend it? No. D2 owners will have to experiment for themselves.
I will update you if I do come accross any obvious improvement.

OK! The Powerchip failed its last test.
There is this steep road almost to downtown Austin that is about 15-20 degree incline I would estimate. Been climbing that same hill for years. In stock form I would usually be able to hold a 30mph at floored throttle. When I ported and polished the heads, I was actually able to watch the speedo needle move slightly indicating that I was accelerating a wee bit.
Tried it today, and the vehicle actually lost speed. It decelerated on me.
I need to ask these guys at Powerchip,"what gives?"
Unless I am having a related problem elsewhere in the engine, the powerchip is not up to expectations. In fact, it is downright disappointing.
Unless I happen to find out that there is another issue that is causing the degradation in performance I think that I will take the chip out.

Luis,
Which chip did you get and what parameters did you give them?

Don,
I filled out the order form online, then called them. I made sure they completely undersood what I had done to the vehicle.
KN filter, stage 1 performance headwork, alot of the basic inexpensive mods, stock cam though.
Told them that I would like better performance all around.
I know that 5-10 horse difference most likely would not be noticable in the seat of the pants. But a person knows their own vehicle. And even suttle changes should be noticed. Like, you know what distance your car will cover during a 0 to 60 full throttle acceleration. When you make a modification, you should atleast expect to cover just a little less distance. Or, like my steep street that was my last test for the chip. I actually noticed a negative change.
Someone emailed me and told me that I might have to recalibrate my MAF and TS. I would have thought all that would have been programmed.

Luis,
I don't think any recalibration should be necesary, though it may take several hundred miles for the new ECU format to absorb actual engine performance and adjust itself.Definitley
stay up with the powerchip people even to the point of I'm not happy "DO IT AGAIN NOW".
Good Luck, Don

I have never found that aftermarket chips are much good. The only way to remap an ECU is on a Dyno.
