I want to put a winch on my (open)car trailer just in case I need to load a dead vehicle. I typically will haul a '65 mustang but would like the option of being able to load my disco. Some of the winches that I've seen have a rolling capacity and a pulling capacity. What capacity do I use? Anyone have their two cents? |

Neal, I used to have an enclosed trailer with a dovetail rear door. It came with a 3K(no name, came with trailer) winch that did the job on a 3800lb. mustang. Depending on the grade of your ramps you should be able to get away with a 3K. On an open trailer, I would not suggest any more than that, only because of theft. Hope this helps Ron |

save your dough use the winch on your disco to draw things onto the trailer by lining up nose to hitch. but if you really must have one ...thats a good place for a lil smoker |

Neal, good question, cant really answer it as it has been a few years since I sold the trailer. I'm going to guess by the size of the housing is was 3K pulling. Keep in mind as long as its rolling on wheels you do not need much pulling power, unless your ramps are very short.
