A common malady on used Discos in California is that the sealed rear gate window and two side windows in the back have rubber moulding that 'appears' to shrink and then crack and split... so it looks like there wasn't quite enough moulding to go around and you have little cut out wedges a couple places or more. One could have this replaced. But for small cases of this, or to delay any more elaborate repairs, what does anyone use? Is there a special window rubber goo that one can get that comes in a tube? Is Shoe Goo heresy? Black tub silicone sealant or something? It looks like one could do a decent repair on this sort of thing with some special stuff in a tube and an x-acto for a few bucks (especially living in a no-snow/little rain environment most of the year). I'd like to get something that's not too glaringly different in shine (that is, lack of one) and blackness, from the window moulding itself. Thanks. |

you can get some black silicone windshield sealant and gasket maker type 273 and use that to plus the cracks or you could just buy new seals. |

i used just black silicone from the local parts shop. works great! a bit messy so if you are concerned wear gloves and have a rag or two to wipe any areas off. also you can use a popsicle stick or your finger with a glove to smooth out the silicone so its not so "rigged" looking..cheers |

I'm not sure that replacement is the best thing. My '95 had these seals replaced twice under warranty. I'm sure that, if I hadn't traded in the truck, I'd have had to just go on and on replacing those seals indefinitely. |

Black silicone it is, and a little attempt at sculpting. Thanks all. |

I just had my seals replaced all around. Because I read that they seem to crack often, I am in the process of coating the whole exposed ouside suface of them with black silicone in the hopes that it might prevent them from cracking. Anyone else tried this or something similar? |
