The drivers side is starting to click. Should I just replace it, or both? The dealer quoted me $580 each.

Thanks
Doug

I was just getting ready to post the same question. I also need to know about any after market cv joints. I just called CV Unlimited and they gave me a price of $199/side. Do I need a special socket to get the funny shaped nuts off?

Hey Doug,
Maybe they will give us a discount if we by in bulk?

I just replace them as they go. On most of my cars I've found that you can get rebuilt drive shafts that are cheaper and easier to install than fooling with the joints themselves FYI.

Bill, I am in with you. I would need to know about the shipping costs too.

Any decent independent rover shops out there?

Make sure it's your CV Joint clicking.

I pulled apart my axles to inspect the CV joints and replace the seals, as I thought my CV joints were on their way out, as I heard a click. Turns out its the piss poor design of the brake caliper/pads, that allows the brake pads to move back and forth in the caliper, resulting in a click.

Something to check at least.

Otherwise, email Nathan over at www.discountrovers.com, I was looking at prices, and I believe his CV joint quote was well below what you stated above.

Doug and Bill, just call Nathan, his price is below what you are quoted and if you have issues then Nathan will bend-over backwards for you. I have been purchasing parts from Nathan for over 5 years.
Brent, don't know what you are referring to, but unless you are talking about purchasing a used joint that typically comes as an assembly, joint and axle, then I don't know of anyone who will price the assembly cheaper than separate parts. Why pay for an assembly when you only need a CV joint? I do beleive however that if the joint fails you will need both since the half-shaft takes a beating as well.

I think there is 5 bolts that hold the cv ball and joint in. They are a star shape.

Hey Brent,

Where do you get rebuilt drive shafts? I'm trying to get away as cheap as possible. The factory one was good for 100,000 miles and would still be good if I haven't let all the oil leak out. I have not seen any cheaper than $200.00 bucks.

Those are 12 sided bolts. Just get yourself a 12 sided socket, most good socket sets have both 6 and 12 sided sockets.

The 12 sided bolts also hold the caliper on.
