Please enlighten me O great Gurus of the Land Rover Shrine.;) (So i won't make a fool of myeself when I go into the local j**p shop.) I've read about the air lockers and the limited slips, but I havent heard much about the magnetic ones? Does anyone use them? Pro- con? We have electric locking diffs on 4WD Ford 1-ton work trucks used off road. They work very well. I want to put locking diffs on my D1. Not only is it my woods vehicle, but also a daily driver. Need something reliable and eaisily maintained. What's the best way to go? |

I haven't heard of magnetic lockers. Electric ones yes. Don't know if they make them for LR yet. You have actually opened a can of worms because everybody has their favorites. I personally don't run axle lockers. I have never really found myself in a situation that called for them. Only in extreme instances do I lock the CDL,(very steep hills, side slopes). Heck, one time I was going through some of the gumbo stuff up to my bumpers. 50 yards into, more than 3/4 the way through, I looked down and realized I had forgotten to lock the CDL. Oh s***!!! To this day I don't know how I got through that stuff. Had to have been the Rover, it certainly wasn't the driver. Do your research on pros and cons of each before picking one. I don't feel qualified enough to go further in to it, though I have researched it for my own use and I have considered them but only for the rear axle. |

I have recently installed lockers front and rear on my '95 D1. Trutrac front/Detroit Rear/4:11 gearing.. I haven't had a chance to try the diffs in MOAB, but found myself in DEEP sand last weekend. I didn't experience any single tire spin, and haven't noticed any rattles or chunks on the road. Any questions, contact Bill at Great Basin Rovers... |
