well this is for all of you out there that may be or may yet experience fuel pump failure.we own a 1997 V8i discovery and last night our pump died. we went and had a genuine part priced. 400 to 1000 australian dollars!!! but were lucky enough to be informed that another australian production car has basically the EXACT same pump. for those of you wishing to order one it is a VN V8 holden commodore in-tank fuel pump. cost us $Au165.00 that is a saving of around $840. for those of you in USA this would cost you around $US80 plus about $us20 freight. the

My pump failed but luckly was replaced under warantee.
Another bit to watch out for is the plug for the fuel pump, under the rear carpet, it has a habit of failing.
Not easy to find when the back is full and it is 10'o'clock at night in the middle of nowhere.

To stir the pot some more.. there is a Mazda pickup fuel pump that is the same as our Disco pump (can't recall off hand what the part # is but can find it somewhere if someone is interested, email me.) It matches flow rate, psi as stock.. just needs some simple modification to install. I have had my replacement pump installed for 14 months without any issues.

This pump is about $39 at any parts store... it takes some skill to install this, because the polarity of the Mazda pump is reversed from the LR one & you are only replacing the pump & not the entire pump assembly (guage float, pick up tube, etc...)

yer same as this commodore one. you only replace the actual pump. not the float etc. however there are no mods needed for the commodore one. fits straight on. same plug type too.

Tod you dont even need to do that,if you buy a generic "out of tank pump" like those used on injected VK Commodores and Ser3 XJ6 jags you just mount it somewhere and it sucks though the old one on trouble.
