not to beat to death old tire questions but... got a new set of GY MT/R's 245/75 for my 95Disco which should be installed next week. its basically stock except for sliders and a few things here and there. (no heavy bumpers, winches, etc...) i bought OME MD springs and shocks about 9mo ago. question: 1. those who are running MT/R's how much noiser are they over the stock XPC's (trying to guage the wife moan factor) 2. how differently do they drive "on road". i've only had the stock XPC's on my rig its whole life. how are things like on road stopping distance, emergency handling, wet road handling, etc. 3. i disconnected my rear sway bar which gives my lots of extra articulation... will i rub with the OME MD suspension? 4. castor vs steel... ive collected a set of stock steel wheels which i spray painted black to be used as an "off road set". contemplating powder coating but figured if they are used as an "off road" set i could respray them if they got scratched. anyway, the original plan was keep my castors w/XPC's as my daily drivers and mount the MT/R's on my steel wheels. then whenever i go wheeling i simply swap them out. yeah it will mean 20 -30 min of pain in the ass work to swap them but the flip side is... my rig w/stock XPC's scrapes my garage door if i pull in with less then 1/2 tank of gas. AKA it BARELY fits. im afraid with 245/75 it wont fit, which for me means parking it OUTSIDE my townhouse complex, A VERY LONG WALK... (the home owners association doesnt allow residence to park inside the complex, that parking is for guest only and they are like nazi's, they will tag your car with BRIGHT firey orange stickers if they see residence cars parked in the complex) the Question is... does anyone else run two sets of tires (on road and off road) and is it worth the hassel???? thx

>>>>1. those who are running MT/R's how much noiser are they over the stock XPC's (trying to guage the wife moan factor)<<<< The MTR's are quieter than worn-down XPC's. My wife even commented on it. >>>>2. how differently do they drive "on road". i've only had the stock XPC's on my rig its whole life. how are things like on road stopping distance, emergency handling, wet road handling, etc.<<<< Purely subjective, but MTR's handle fine dry wet and snow on my Disco. No impact on steering or control. Stopping distance is a little greater due to increased rotating mass. No complaints at all, considering the benefits of the MTR's over the XPCs. >>>>3. i disconnected my rear sway bar which gives my lots of extra articulation... will i rub with the OME MD suspension?<<<< Probably. My fronts rub onroad! I still have my rear swaybar on. >>>>4. castor vs steel...<<<< Two sets of tires is a PITA. If you drive many tens of thousands of miles per year, it will save your MTR's from wearing down in a short time. But if you don't drive a ton, MTR's are a very livable and decent road tire. Consider the source, I drive under 10k/yr so tire wear isn't a huge issue to me. joe |

I have 245/75 on the rear with 2" RTE springs and I had to trim the wheelwells ... and thats with my rear sway bar connected. You might want to try Kyle's patented No-Cut-WheelWell Volumizer before you go gettin all flexy. |

I have 245/75 on all 4, with OME HD springs/shocks and I had to trim none. I dont have the swaybar disconnected though. I can tell very little difference in sound on the road, and I actually agree with Joe M. I think it may even sound quieter than my old warn down tires. I like them a whole lot. |

Ken, that volumizer sounds like some sort of conditioner you can buy at a beauty salon. LOL Good luck with the fenders! Wish I could be there to help "volumize." |

I have OME on front and rear air bags that are raised up about 1" and 245x75 MTRs. They are quieter thant the worn out stock Goodyears were, I have no rubbing at all and I have a ARB with a winch on the front. Swaybars are still connected. They corner fine on dry pavement, you have to watch them some on wet pavement if you really push it. They're awsome off road. After I put them on I hardly heard the traction control when off road. |
