And then the 2005 Discovery probably won't, since it'll be all-new (and maybe all-Ford too.)

04 Disco is last of the off- road (4.6L, CDL, ETC) truck series to get from Land Rover with out a 75K price tag. RR03 are hella off-roaders, but too much bling-bling for me to take off roading.

I like the fact that the '04 S will have an in-dash single CD like the Freelander. About time we got around to including a CD player in a $35k truck!

Any other major changes for 2004, cosmetic, mechanical, or otherwise?

I find it sad that Land Rover had to wait till 04 to put the CDL back in. Because of that, i'm probably going to have to pay big money to swap out my transfer case so I can add a CDL. Does anyone know whether the driveshafts on our non CDL 4ETC 03 Disco's here in the states will be strong enough if we add a CDL?

June,
You do not have to replace the whole t-case, just the housing and a couple of other parts. The parts are under $400, but the labor is a bit much. I just had this done on my 2002. Bill's European in Santa Fe is now specializing in converting Disco II's w/out the CDL stub (late '01 -present) to lockable. Great Basin is talking about marketing these parts as a kit. Still ticks me off that I had to go spend money on something LR should have done from the start!

cheers,
Ted

June, Drive shaft won't be a problem. Just keep an eye on the DC (u-joints) on the front shaft but that applies if you have a CDL or not.

Wow, thanks for the information! If I can convert my current transfer box to a lockable differential, I will probably definately do that. What kind of parts were required to make this happen? I will ask my dealership's service department, but I brought it up once when I bought it, and they didn't seem to know about any kits to convert of install a lockable center diff.

Roof rails are different on the 04, center console area where the cigar lighter is located is different, rear coat hangers and panels are different, cable actuated CDL off the shifter.

As for the '05 having diff lock, have any of you seen the Explorer with a center locking diff and why would anyone need that to drive to the mall?
