Hey Disco-brothers...

Here's a cute video from our recent SlitherFest run....the only thing missing from the video is Neil and Ho.

Just a cute video, depicts nothing of serious offroading....but the music works and it's better then much on tv. When the webpage comes up there are 3 files to select from on the bottom, just click on SlitherFest and use whichever movie works best for you. Don't bother trying unless you have a good high-speed internet connection.

Thanks guys...

Alan Mehre is our Subway guy...he's got that huge H1 done-up in Subway colors...he's got 8 stores and looking to open more. It's hard for the IRS to contest the business use when it's a moving billboard.

Btw...the whole thing was done on a PC using Primiere 6.5

damnit! pc's and subways...and i was so happy...;)

my cpa says it is all about 2 things...is it your only car? if it is, then it is hard to call it 100% business. and mileage. i have only one as a daily driver, so the milage issue was more than i wanted to deal with, so i just repay myself a set amount for pre-established "business mileage" a month.

alan should be in good shape in the subway system, then. once you break the 5 store level, then it seems that econmies of scale start working in your corner.

Steve,

As much as you know I love to hate Hummers (my wife wants an H2:-)), I gotta admit that you seem to have an innate ability to make a solid video.

Curtis- Those H2's would be better than your d2 for hauling the kids around in, a lot bigger on the inside. Plus your pro-comps would look right at home. :-) I looked at a used H2 the other day down by my office, with the optional off road package it had 35" tires and no lift, made my d1 look small, I'll grab a card from the salesman for you ...

Nice video Steve, one of these days I have to break down and get a digital video camera. What are you using to take the footage and how long does it take you to compile a finished video? Need tons of hard drive space to do edit a video?

Andy,

LOL - My wife may love them, but you will never see one of those atrocities in my driveway. I think it is great that others like them, but they just don't fit my style.

You need to call/email me to setup and ride. Ed & I have been covering 2-3 new trails a week.

But it's Utah! Bigger the better right? Oh, wait an minute, if you don't own a Jeep that's setup for rock "krawlin" you must not be wheeling in Utah, I always forget that ... I guess it's a jeep thing that I don't understand. What really gets me other than people afraid to wheel a H2 (unlike the h2 owners who come to this site) is a woman living near me has a Rubicon with a warn winch and 265/75 mt/r's and had running boards put on from a sahara. I ran into her at the grocery store and asked her how she liked it offroad, she told me "it was to new to take offroad"(?). She saw my rover and asked "do you take that offroad?" I said yes, she said "you should get a jeep instead of the yuppy hauler, you'll never get that offroad" I just shook my head and left saying "huh" .

Andy - you shoulda dropped a challenge to her. Tell her if you're willing to take the "yuppy hauler" off-road, then she should take her Rubicon too.

I've seen a few Rubicons around here now too but it seems like people buy them more for the image they put out than it's actual abilities. What a waste....

Wow...lots to address. I laid this thread and sorta forgot about it.

Okay...the pics are from a very simple Canon camera: it's just too easy.....point, shoot, hook cord to the computer and it's soooooo easy it'll make ya laugh. That's the easy part.

The hard part is editing digital video. You have to import the clips, drop them on a timeline, crop them to suit, use transitions, incorporate a solid flow of story, use some pics, etc. Then you can insert text and then you get to "rip" music, import the tunes and lay the tracks down. The more "powerful" or complex the program...the more time it'll take to get the job done.

You could EASILY make learning the basics a whole semester of college study!!!! If you want quality it'll take some time. The learning curve is slow, but once you get the hang of it...it's almost addicting and much faster. Not sure how much hard-drive is req'd.

Andy...harsh dude: you got burned by a poser! What a crock with her saying that to you. I suppose with the purchase of each jeep comes a manual on being snotty? I would have just looked at her coldly and said "Bitch.....please!"

When I first got into the H2 it felt very big and firm...but then you get used to it. Not too long ago I stepped into a D2...and almost fell out the other side: DAMN that is a tight little clastrophobic fit. It has that go-cart feel to it, and yet they say it weights about the same as the H2???

Lastly...I think we're going to have to wait to see a trickle-down effect with these H2's. Once we have some H2's getting beat-up and not so prestine....I think you'll start seeing some more serious abuse and offroading. I mean....come on...not many people trash the new toy right off the bat. Give it some time....even Muskyman outright has declared an interest in picking one up and "fixing" it right. Once these things are 2-4 years old and we start seeing some beaters here and there...you'll start seeing some dumb-stuff real quick. I don't think I need to elaborate, you guys know what I mean.

Try www.weightwatchers.com

If you think the D2 is small then you may need to revisit the Jeep dealer.

"DAMN that is a tight little clastrophobic fit."

Think about it though, no need to carry a chainsaw on a pre-run.

Makes the trip more enjoyable.

"When I first got into the H2 it felt very big"

I thought so too till I imagined what the rear cargo area would look like after a trip from Costco. Dread the thought of pulling the spare to make room for grocery shopping. :-)

Actually the market of used prestine h2's and rubicons will be nice for 4 wheelers. Out here in Utah rubicon's are now being discounted by dealers because they have more in stock than they could sell. To be honest I'm thinking of getting one of the 04 D2's with the cdl minus the airsprings as a commutter and hang onto my d1 for wheeling. Once I get 3 or 4 years into the loan on the 04 start modifing it for offroad and then sell my d1. I hope I can find a discounted 04 when those new 05's come out, maybe a dealer demo truck. As for the rubicon girl, she was really good looking so her jeep was one of those hot jeep girl things, you know,"I look good in this thing". If she went off road she might be afraid of the bugs or wildlife she might find. Makes me appreciate my wife more when she tells me "lets go wheeling and camping this weekend". Only problem is now she wants to drive too, so I have to share, oh well.

Ron - on the second photo, I believe an H1 would fit between these trees. on a rig with 80" sidewall-to-sidewall, there was at least a foot on each side. Looks tight but it isn't.

Well Peter you may be correct but as I have seen in the other videos, I imagine they would just try to push it over.

I do know that Holcomb Creek is pretty tight. I would hate to see what an H2 looks like after that run.

Ron, an H2 does just fine in Holcomb Creek. A few pinstripes is all the damage one can incur, with a decent spotter. On John Bull, that tree died not too long ago, and the stump's still tough enough to stand up to a Hummer. But - it is wide enough for a Pinzgauer 712, and so is nearly every trail in SBD mountains.

Thanks for the correction!

Ron, some folks on this board managed to bang their Discos on Holcomb Creek, so H2 driver definitely deserves a break (in having a good spotter). But, FYI, that particular H2 I saw had no problems with traction and clearance on this trail.

Peter,

I'm not talking capability.

"so H2 driver definitely deserves a break(in having a good spotter)."

Not talking about the driver or the spotter.

"FYI, that particular H2 I saw had no problems with traction and clearance on this trail."

Funny you should mention this H2,...AGAIN!
