My 96 Disco has developed a sound that sounds a little like the engine is knocking. It really only happens at idle and it seems to disappear, or I can't notice it, under acceleration. My brother got underneath it tonight and said that the sound seems like its coming from the resonators or something in the exhaust. Is this possible or has anybody else experienced this? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Sounds like an exhaust leak. Check around the manifold and y pipe. These are the areas for exhaust leaks. Manifold might have a crack. |

Damn you guys...this just started on mine today. Aggravating as hell but it definitely sounds like it's coming from the exhaust. Maybe the heat shield but I haven't gotten underneath the thing yet. |

Mine seems to do it more when the engine is warmed up. I can't really pinpoint where the sound is coming from but it seems like its more in the exhaust area than the engine. |

I have the same problem in my 97. It started a while back but I have not had the chance to check into it. How can I tell if it is an engine problem or an exhaust issue? |
