I've got a high idle problem. The engines hits 2500 rpm's in park and I can feel the engine pulling while in drive. Its not the stepper motor. The engine also stalls or spudders every once in a while. The throttle body has been cleaned new vacuum lines for the valve covers to plenum are on their way. The fuel pump assembly was replace last year. A new fuel filter was just put on this past weekend. the throttle cable is not overly tight. Finally no codes are showing, The computer was scanned for codes, and no check engine light is on. Whats nexted |

Either something is holding the throttle plate open, or you have a major vacuum leak. The throttle plate should be completely closed when your foot is not on the gas pedal. The ECU will then control the idle speed thru a bypass hose, using the stepper motor output and the ig coil as input sensor(you didn't say which truck model it is). Most likely cause is: That one of the vacuum hoses which is supposed to be connected to the intake plenum is disconnected, loose or has a big crack in it. Unmetered air is probably entering the intake leak causing chaos(stalling) with the fuel/air ratio. Solution: Get serious about finding it. There's a wheel barrel load of plumbing under your hood, but only a bout a dozen hoses connected to the intake. You can also spray carborator cleaner around every possible intake gasket, seal, etc; listen for changes in the engine running if the carb cleaner hits a leaky gasket. Randall |

Hi. I was just wondering, I have read a few post's about this idle problem, Does it just pop up after so many miles or does it usually happen from the get go when new? The Disco Im looking at didnt have any prob, But I only had it for a few hours. Thanks Brian |

1997 LSE disco 4.0 Randall I have been looking for a vacuum leak from here to there. That is why I ordered the Two vac hoses to the plenum and replaced the vac hose to the fuel pressure regulator. I can here a vac leak but can't pin point it with the idle so high. I'll try the carb cleaner good idea. I unplugged the throttle position sensor and the studders went away. |

When you do get a decent idle (if you do) unplug the stepper motor. The exact same thing happened to mine & I have been driving around for a while with the stepper motor disc. You can tweak the plunger on the stepper to get the idle that you want. If anyone else can shed any light on this please let me know. JOE |
