Has anyone tried a Surco Rack? I saw one on a Jeep and they make several styles including the tall gutter mounts for Discos. Made from aluminum and much less expensive (48"x48" or half rack size less than $200).

we bought a 50"x60" Surco rack and the tall brackets for the 98 discovery. the rack has performed flawlessy to date and is just as versatile as any other rack in terms of attaching brackets, lights, etc.

we paid $150 for the rack and $77 for the brackets. pics can be seen at http://www.cardomain.com/id/deepdoo1

i am not sure of the weight limits but we have loaded all our light gear, tent, chairs, bags, empty cooler, towel, blankets etc. for four people.

if you are only buying the rack for utility then these are great and the price is right. if you are buying for utility and looks then this isnt the way to go, plus you cant put a tent on it.

I just got the 48x 60 for my trip out west NJ to CA and Back, It looks pretty tough, I'm not expecting any problems, I'm mounting it to my Thule roof mounts

I have been using one for years with gutter mounts. I have used and abused it. It's still holding up great!

Anyone have a site where I can look at, and possibly order one of these?

Deepdoo,

I'm curious about what gear you were in when you pulled off the top of that berm. I've been to Pismo and never got air - that... was... awesome!

On the other hand, I have aired down at Pismo! Nice truck, good to see it used so well.

Cheers,

e
