Brand new Warn 9000 going on my D2 with the DAP discreet mount: Winch motor on the right, base down. The wire rope is coming off the TOP of the spool. The sticker that says "Drum turns this way to wind in wire rope" has an arrow facing me. The rope winds out if the drum turns this way. The DAP mount has to have the rope come off the BOTTOM of the spool - did Warn send a winch with the rope wound wrong on the spool??? All indication are that this is so. I have no power to the winch yet, so not looking forward to unspooling 100' of wire rope and trying to turn the thing by hand in the opposite direction. Any suggestions? (Oh, I know, buy a Ramsey...) i don't have a winch, so I can't help you. I'd call Warn if I didn't get a response here. |

John - I recently mounted a Warn XD9000 on my ARB. The motor should be on the passenger side and the gear shifter on the drivers side. Because my winch mounted behind the bumper I undid the cap nuts on the gear box and very CAREFULLY pulled the cap off to rotate it around to allow me to mount it with the gear lever at the top of the winch and easy to access. If needed I will send you some pics tomorrow. I am at work tonite. Jay |

Jay, thanks, I confirmed with Warn that the Winch is correct (wire coming off the bottom of spool with motor to the left - passenger side). The problem is with the DAP (Bearmach) discreet mount - the mounting holes and slit for wire rope were punched incorrectly - totally opposite of what they should have been. I've not been able to get any satisfaction from DAP over the phone, so emailed photos of the situation to them. If I don't hear from them in a couple of days, I'll box the whole thing up, send it back, contest the CC charges, and on to plan B. John F |

In your original post you mentioned the DAP mount requiring the rope to come off the bottom of the spool. You mention the rope coming off the top but then in your second post you mention it coming off the bottom of the spool. So I'm confused. Off the bottom of the spool and the slot on the plate matching this rope position would be the "correct" way. |

Sorry for the confusion. The only way the mounting holes line up, and the wire rope slot with the spool, is if the motor is mounted to the right (drivers side). Unfortunately, with this orientation the wire comes off the TOP of the spool (incorrect) and the wire cannot feed through the slot in the front of the mount. If you set the winch on the plate correctly, with the motor on the left (passenger) side, then the wire rope correctly comes off the bottom of the spool, but the slot is offset from the spool, and the motor hangs off the left side of the mount by an inch or so. It has to be at least flush with the plate in order to fit the side brackets which bolt to the front of the frame. Definately not correctly manufactured. I'll email pics if this is still not clear.
