Hi, I am currently renting a newer Discovery and have a couple of questions. (there is no owners manual) Well after doing a search I figured out that I am talking about the Differential lock in front of the shifter. I don't know how to engage it...so far the only way it would move was with the transmission in neutral and the brake engaged. When it moves I just get this flashing light and alarm on the dash with two gears and an x on top of them. Also, it is an automatic but in front of the differential lock lever there is a little plate with 5 numbers on it all illustrating what I THINK are different shifting methods. Could someone explain that to me? Also, it has an obvious cassette player in the dash but there is a CD button on it and I can't find a CD player or place to insert a CD anywhere. I am assuming this is an '03 Model considering it only has 3500 miles on the odometer. I believe it would be the S version, all it says on the back is Discovery and V8. No sunroofs. Thanks for all your help! Jon |

If it has the CD changer it would be under the passenger seat. As for the CDL... you likely don't have one but have a transfer case that will shift from Hi-Lo range. The numbers are the 5 steps to change from one to the other. |

sometimes it is easier to engage lo-range if you are still moving SLOWLY (less than 5mph) while in neutral. the five numbers are not the "different shifting methods," but the order in which you should be doing the steps in the ONE shifting method. |

If it a S it will not have a CD changer. However if the rental is from hertz they are all SE trucks. An easy way to tell is the rim size. If it has 16's it is a S and all others have 18's. Other small options missing are sunfoofs, armrests on the side of the seat, a painted front bumper, suede door panels. |
