how do they age? Are they still quiet on road after say 20K miles? Being a commercial tire, they last a long time, right? I can't decide between the dunlop and the bf goodrich AT. I know that the bf goodrich lasts a long time, but the dunlop seems like a better tire for all conditions. Any advice? Dave

Dave, I've had them for about 10k miles now. I do get noise and vibration but I THINK its actually my ROTOFLEX Joint thats vibrating makign the low pitch rumble.
Very good Snow Traction if that matters to you. Better in snow than the BFG AT.
Loud under braking and hard Cornering. They dont corner as well or stop as well as the stock XPC's. BUT they are more than acceptable.
Towing they are GREAT, the actually seem to like having the extra weight on them.
Off road is very good, if you spin them fast enough they will clean themselves of mud somewhat. Better than the BFG AT's at least.
Great tire, I'd take the BFG AT over the Dunlop RT's IF - I lived in a drier climate "rain traction" and drove onroad a lot. If I drove offroad more or lived where I drove through more standing water at high speed I think I'd opt for the Dunlops as the BFG's dont clear water very well at high speed. "hydroplane".
Hope that helps...Oh Yea, they BOTH wear very well.
Todd

Tirerack.com used to/does rate the Dunlop Radial Rover RT as a pure snow tire. Thus, it would provide excellent traction in snow. I've talked to an RT owner who drove his disco around in the snow and didn't have any trouble.

I have 22K on mine and all is good. I am still at about 70% of the original tread.

I have 15K on mine (265/75-16):

- Great in the snow
- Great on wet roads
- Not quiet but not loud
- Not good in mud
- Good in dry, rocky conditions when aired down
- Balance perfectly

Looks like I've got <10K miles left on them. One of them has a nasty sidewall gash but it's still holding air. The sidewalls don't appear to be overly strong.

Michael, when you say that they are not quiet, but not loud, is the noise bearly noticable or bothersome road noise? Road noise on the highway is my main concern. I may choose the BFG AT even though the dunlop is a better traction tire. Does the dunlop RT start off without road noise and gradually gain some as it ages? Thanks,
Dave

As an all-around tire I was amazed when I switched from the stock Michelins to My Dunlop R/T's. Perfect combo tire for me! Stock Michelins Suck in everything. You want a mud tire, get a dedicated mud tire. You want a snow tire, get a dedicated snow tire. Etc... Honestly, I don't remember hearing a difference in road noise either. And at under a hundred dollars a pop I didn't care how long they held up! Softer compound is gonna give you better performance on dry road and wear quickly. Harder compound is gonna give you worse performance on dry road and last longer. To be perfectly honest when I bought these tires I wasn't a huge fan of Dunlops and didn't expect much from them. Now, I think they are VERY worth the money. I AM a big fan of Michelin tires. I think Michelin makes the best tires around. And I think the stock Michelins are embarrasing! They should be ashamed to put there name on those.

I'm not sure what the sidewall rating is on the R/T's but I thought it was at least a 4 ply. Haven't had any problems with the sidewall yet, but in all fairness I haven't run them really hard since I've gotten them less than a year ago. This work thing is really eating into my play time!!! I've heard alot of people compare the R/T's to the BFG trac-edge which also had a huge following. I don't have any experience with that tire. I have heard that an All-Terrain tire like the BFG AT will suck off-road. A big concideration is where you live and what type of driving you do. If you drive onroad alot and your trucks a daily driver you're gonna want a tire that does well in several catagory's. And if you live somewhere it hardly ever snows then you don't have to concider that aspect of the tire. ETC... Good Luck
