I know somebody else must have experienced this. I put my A/C on tonight but got nothing on the first 2 positions, only on full blast. I can hear the A/C click on at the first position, just not the blower. Any clues? Is it just a bad switch or are there different relays/fuses for each speed? Sweaty in L.A. |

Your fan speed resistor is gone. It is about a $50-60 part - but a pain to replace. If you remove the grate and foam from the passenger side cowl vent (vents right above hood) and peer inside, you'll see it mounted on the firewall. It is round and about 4" long. Contrary to what people will tell you - you do not have to remove the cowl or get to it from inside the truck - it can be replaced through just the vent opening with some time and patience. It's just two screws and one wired connector, just all in difficult to access spots. Bill |

Thanks Bill. I've ordered the resistor (and a switch to add to my spares case) and will check out the access today. I also got an email naming the same suspect. Thanks guys. |

To add to Bill's comment: don't worry about unscrewing the old resistor out. Simply bend the two tabs outward and remove the old one. Install the new one and bend the tabs back! Trying to unscrew with a 90 deg phillips head is a waste of time due to rust. |

I was looking in the manual and it seemed like the 2 screws go through the mounting tabs, is that not the case? If I can get the old one out without unscrewing those, can I still secure the new one without screws? |

Strangely enough - my screws came right out - after 13 years on the east coast - go figure. I used a right angle "skewdriver" bit in a cordless drill. Hey Ali - coming to MAR this year?? Bill |

Done it! Bit of a biatch though. The old one came out of it's mount using Ali's 'bend the tabs' technique. The problem was the connector to the harness. On my '93 there's no way to get the connector into to cowl area. I had to separate the old resistor from the harness with a flat screw driver and re-route the new connector against the firewall in order to connect the new resistor. I though my goddam finger was gonna break off trying to pull the connector over the harness. Anyhow, it's done, it works, thanks Bill and Ali, you nailed it. SC |

Just lost low speed for my blower. How do these things usually fail? Are the other two speeds days numbered? Not too worried right now, as low speed was pretty pathetic anyways. ;) |
