I was at a small dealer a few weeks ago and a guy was working on a car fender directly on the lot. I noticed his pickup had a few small tools and a very small sign on the side. I then recognized his dent removal procedure as a "massager", not the usual body shop way. He was very quiet when I asked him about it and it seemed a bit odd he was so protective of his work area. A week later I spoke to the dealer about it and he told me he fixes all the small dents on his cars and many other dealers locally. Here's the really cool thing, he made $400,000 last year! I swear he had no more than a couple of large tool boxes with him and a pick-up truck. I am guessing that's not alot to some of you guys on this board but in my neck of the woods that's a shitload of money. Is anyone here familiar with this process?

I doubt he made $400G's, its not super secret, its just paintless dent repair, look in the yellow pages, if the dent or ding is small enough, they can go behind the body panel and massage them out, they sometimes have to drill a small hole if there is no easy access to the rear of the panel, usually on the inside door by the latches. It works really good, usually really hard to tell if there was ever a ding or dent.

The person was averaging $300.00 an hour at this small dealership. Do the math and I believe it's possible. He also has a protected territory from the company he is associated with. Personally I have no interest in doing it but simply found the situation and small business aspect of it interesting.

There is no possible way you are going to convince me of this Tim. Lets just agree to disagree, but is sounds like total BS to me.

400k per year is a ton to anyone. I do not know the latest statistics, but that is very likely in the top 1% of incomes in the US, and likely in the top fraction of a percent.
