These are same issues from a previous post but wanted more advice. I get huge vibrations up to 30mph and then every now and then small ones at up to 50mph. I put on OME HD springs and shocks a month ago the rotoflex is fairly new. I am leaking around the swivel and will replace gaskets. I am replacing the transmission filter kit and flipping the rotoflex just for kicks. Could it be a cv or do I need to switch out the rear drive shaft? Everyone has mentioned these before and I thought I would just start working down the list unless someone has another idea or has had these symptons. Thanks, Ken |

Ken What I would do is remove the driveshafts one at a time, and test drive, to at least narrow it down to the front or rear driveline. Based only on the above post, replacing the rotoflex with a standard u-joint seems likely. Randall |

have you checked the rotoflex (how new is new)? with OME HD springs a new roto becomes an old roto quick. |

I looked at it today as a matter of fact. I put it on about a month or so before the shocks and springs. It doesn't look bad at all. The one I replaced was all torn up and I had mild vibrations only at high mph.

"What I would do is remove the driveshafts one at a time" of course do not forget to central diff lock to drive ! And remember to go easy on it as only one out of 2 axel is taking 100 % of the torque instead of 50 %. GO EASY ! rotoflex out, RR driveshaft is recommanded ... |

I just went through some nasty vibrations that turned out to be my Universal joint at the rear of my front axle. Upon visual inspection everything seemed fine, but after pulling the front driveshaft it was quite apparent. I also just serviced my transmission, and unless you really enjoy yourself, you'd be better off having someone else do it. I did it myself because I'm cheap.. if there is ever a next time, I'll let someone else do it. Good luck either way.. RS |

If it is up to 30mph then I can almost promise you it is the front driveshaft. The over 50mph vib is probably the rear. Im betting front JOINT for sure. I'd replace both too. A driveshaft shop will install them pretty cheap but your probably going to have to supply the joints. Be sure you dont cheap out and get the ones w/o grease fittings. I ordered some el cheapos on line and ended up replacing them in 7 months due to being unable to grease them after offroading. Also ask the driveshaft shop to rebalance the shaft and consider replacing the rotos with a standard UJ shaft. Gordo |

Thanks guys! Let me ask you this. Is there anyway a bad cat converter could cause this? I have heard a rattle under there on and off over the past 4-5 months. I have the vibration until 30mph and it goes away. I haven't taken it out on the hwy since this started. If I gun it at 30mph to speed up it the vibration and a lound rattle or clanging is present. Just trying to get all the symptons out there for a better diagnosis. I am going to do exactly what you recommended to the drive shafts tomorrow but I am also looking at "What next". Thanks for all the helpful info! Ken |

OK, I changed out the front uv joints this weekend. The truck is still having the same problem. The problem is not speed related as much as rpm. I am going to change the transmission filter kit hopefully this week and will see if that helps. My thoughts are it is either the transmission or the cats.

Don't bother with changing trans filter. Cats can rattle if the catalyst is broken up, but that won't cause vibes. Hit cats with a rubber mallet to see if the catalyst is broken. Did you check the rear DS u-joint? Also - could be bearings in front and/or rear Tcase output. Do you get any wobbble at the tcase end when you move the DS up/down, back/forth? Bill |

Bill, no wobble. I drove it in reverse and no vibes. After talking with people about the cats I realized that wouldn't cause it. I am in the process now of having someone check out the transmission. I am beginning to think torque converter but they are going to check it all out for me. Ken |

Doubtful that it is transmission related at all, torque converter spins on a fixed axis as long as it's bolted to the flexplate (!) - it's gotta be something else in the rotating driveline - tcase, ujoints, rotoflex, diff. BILL |

I haven't checked the tcase and the rotoflex is still in good shape. I am going to put a new rear driveshaft in but not until I'm sure this problem isn't something else first. I needed to replace the transmission fluid anyway, so that hopefully will turn out ok. I'll move on to the diff. next. Thanks, Ken |

Did you take the rear driveshaft off and drive it? Just because the Rotoflex is fairly new and looks good doesn't mean that it is still ok. I wore one out pretty fast. I was positive that the rotoflex was not the problem, but it was. |

Mike you hit it on the head. When I got home from work today I took it off and could see damage that wasn't visible from just looking. I kept my old rotoflex and put it on. PROBLEM SOLVED!!! Thanks guys for all the input. I feel a little stupid but atleast it is done. So my next question is what driveshaft? Tom Woods or GB? I will order one tomorrow. Ken |
